BLUE JAYS ACQUIRE WIDEMAN IN TRADE

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired LHP Aaron Wideman from the Washington Nationals in a minor league deal for OF Tyrell Godwin.

Wideman (5-11, 190), a native of Mississauga, Ontario, has spent two seasons in the minor league system of the former Montreal Expos after being drafted by the club in the 11th round of the June 2003 draft.

In the 2004 season, the 19-year-old made 10 starts for Vermont of the New York Penn League and pitched to a 3-1 record with a 1.81 ERA (44.2 IP, 9 ER). For his professional career, the former Streetsville Secondary student holds a 5-5 record with a 1.91 ERA with 75 strikeouts and 20 walks in 85.0 innings pitched.

Godwin had been selected by the Nationals from the Blue Jays organization in the Major League portion of the 2004 Rule Five Draft.
